California Lifting Most Shutdown Orders

Last year, at the height of COVID-19 shutdowns, many Republicans suspected that these measures were driven by politics, rather than by health and safety. Nonetheless, the mostly Democrat politicians who forced through these orders argued that stopping the virus was the only objective.

The passing of time, however, has put cracks in the aforementioned arguments. During the last days of Donald Trump’s presidency, multiple left-wing politicians started pushing to reopen the economy and businesses in their communities; the explanations Democrats gave for this change in the decision only mimics Republicans’ remarks on shutdown risks.

As America approaches the first full week of the Biden presidency, more Democrats are seeking to reopen. According to Breitbart News, California will be bringing most of its shutdown policies to a halt today.

The Reopening of the Golden State

This morning, the Democrat governor of California is set to roll back shelter-in-place orders. Officially, a reduction in COVID-19 cases, coupled with an increase in ICU availability is what’s convinced Newsom to reopen. Unofficially, however, some people believe that the timing of back-to-back reopenings from Democrats is a little too convenient.

California has served as home to some of the strictest lockdown orders. Many winery owners and restaurant owners brought new lawsuits against Governor Newsom earlier this month; in these suits, the entrepreneurs argued that both Newsom and the California Health Department violated constitutional rights and other civil liberties with their ongoing lockdown orders.

Other businesses in the Golden State simply began to disregard the orders from the California governor. This led to business being done in secret, underground gatherings, and the like.

Will Other Blue States Follow Suit?

As time passes, more conservatives are coming to the conclusion that Democrats kept up stringent shutdowns and thus hurt the economy for the sake of getting Trump out of office. Since the 45th president is no longer in the White House, continuing the facade of the “shut it down” method is unnecessary.

In the coming weeks, there’s a very strong likelihood that other blue states will eventually reopen their economies. Reopening the economy will innately boost employment; hence, Democrats will then attempt to tie economic resurgence to the Biden administration.
