Chicago Now Looking to Reopen Dining Establishments

The Democrat Party appears to be making a gradual shift from the “shut it all down” approach they adopted nearly one year ago. For quite some time, leftists in power argued that due to the nature of coronavirus, shutting down the economy was a must.

This engendered shelter-in-place and stay-at-home orders, loss of employment, and a litany of other issues. With that being said, Democrats are now shifting gears from their pro-shutdown stances, albeit as President Trump prepares to leave office.

Earlier this week, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo professed that the cost of continuing shutdowns would be too great. Now, Lori Lightfoot, the Democrat mayor of Chicago, has expressed an interest in reopening dining establishments as soon as possible, Breitbart News confirms.

The City of Chicago on Reopening

Since October 2020, Chicago residents have suffered from prohibitions against dining indoors. Despite the ongoing issue of COVID-19 cases in the liberal stronghold city, progress has occurred and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker confirmed that certain restrictions will be rolled back today.

Gov. Pritzker isn’t the only one who is eager to get the wall rolling and re-engage certain economic sectors. According to the Chicago mayor, her focus remains on reopening restaurants in her city; she also confirmed that proceeding ahead, she’ll discuss this matter with the Illinois governor.

Per Lightfoot, restaurants come with the added advantages of being routinely inspected, intensely regulated, and having protective measures in place. The Chicago mayor then admitted that shutdowns of dining establishments only led to residents secretly gathering in person to hold parties.

A New Transition of Power

Similarly to Governor Cuomo, some Americans are looking at Mayor Lightfoot with skepticism.

The timing of Democrats now backing reopenings is very interesting; furthermore, the justifications provided by Democrats for reopening mirrors the points conservatives made for months. These are points that Democrats previously undermined and ignored.

Therefore, the Democrat Party is now facing accusations of playing politics with people’s lives. Many Americans have furthermore expressed the sentiment that Democrats seek to now reopen in order to claim that Biden in office bettered the economy.

The left, of course, is not responding to these accusations. In these coming days, more Democrats appear positioned to also come out in favor of reopenings.
