Lockdown culture is something that continues to garner immense pushback from Americans. As time passes, people are becoming unwilling to watch their livelihoods, businesses, mental health, etc., die.

Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden has already admitted that he will push for lockdowns, should he win the 2020 election. However, the governors of Mississippi, South Dakota, etc., have affirmed that they won’t issue any more lockdowns, even if this means defying orders or requests from Biden.

However, in an interesting turn of events, Kansas Governor Laura Kelly, a Democrat, has also stated that she won’t issue another lockdown either, per Breitbart News. This is an unusual stance for a Democrat, in light of how the party has collectively embraced widespread shutdowns, despite the horrific consequences.

Why Kansas Won’t Go on Lockdown Again

According to the left-wing governor of Kansas, there are “other ways” to halt the spread of coronavirus. Kelly admitted as much during a conversation with Fox News yesterday; the Kansas governor then went on to explain that the state will not “[go] that route” in light of how much they’ve learned over the past several months.

Per Kelly, widespread lockdowns happened in the beginning when leaders had no real clue of how to contain the virus. However, for the past eight to nine months, Americans have learned more. The Kansas governor also confirmed that her administration continues close work with school districts, healthcare experts, business communities, and other sectors.

All in all, the Democrat governor believes that other strategies are the best way for Kansas residents to buy time for the development and distribution of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Getting the Economy Back on Stable Ground

In order for the nation’s economy to get back on stable ground, it has to remain open. Lockdowns wound the economy in the short-term, and also have devastating long-term impacts that take years to fully recover from.

Governor Kelly is one of the rare (if not the only) Democrat governors to publically commit to no more lockdowns. The issue of shutdowns rapidly turned into a partisan one this year; while most Republicans opposed lockdowns, most Democrats favored them.

To see a Democrat governor openly come out against shutdowns may indicate that the tide is finally turning.
