With over one month past since the January 6 riots, the aftereffects are still being felt. Just last week, the Senate wrapped up a second impeachment trial of former President Trump, resulting in an acquittal of incitement of insurrection.
Since the Capitol attacks, Washington D.C. has remained on high alert. Tensions have grown between Republican and Democrat lawmakers, especially since the latter continues to fault the former for January 6.
The National Guard is also another factor. Since last month, National Guard troops have protected Capitol Hill. Now, Breitbart News explains that this ongoing protection may last well into the later parts of 2021.

According to Homeland Defense and Global Security assistant secretary Robert Salesses, the National Guard could be in D.C. at least until the fall of this year. As of now, a total of 6,061 troop members are presently working with Capitol police officers to protect the iconic building; next month, the number of National Guard members could drop by approximately 1,000.

The U.S. Pentagon explains that taxpayers throughout the nation are footing the bill for the National Guard’s protection of D.C. The hefty costs are set to reach a grand total of near $483 million by the time the middle of March arrives.
Obviously, the tab will continue to surge so long as the National Guard remains in the nation’s capital; therefore, there’s no telling what the costs will look like if Capitol Hill stays protected by the National Guard into Fall 2021.
Protection for Me, Not for Thee
As the lawmakers in Congress enjoy elite-level protection, Democrats in the House and Senate will be working to disarm Americans. With the green light from Biden, Democrats in Congress are now seeking ways to ban so-called assault weapons, implement new taxes on gun owners, and run gun manufacturers out of business.

Top left-wing lawmakers are additionally calling for a high-level investigation into the events at the Capitol on January 6. This, too, is likely to fall on the taxpayers. At this point, Democrats appear prepared to milk the insurrection for all the political benefits that it is worth.
Already, Democrats continue to rage at their GOP colleagues over votes to acquit Trump instead of working with Republicans on commonsense policies.
