Progressives Deciding Not to Challenge Biden in 2024 Election

Progressive Democrats, who were once aiming to challenge Biden in the 2024 presidential election, have started to change their minds.

Reportedly, no progressive candidate is now likely to compete against Biden in the 2024 election, giving the president a go-ahead for another White House run.

Progressive Supporting Biden’s Reelection Bid

Before the midterm elections, it was widely believed that at least one progressive candidate could challenge Biden in the 2024 election.

Fears of a possible red wave in the midterm elections triggered speculations within Democrats that the party should nominate a younger candidate compared to Biden, who will turn 82 by the time of the next presidential election.

However, Democrats’ performed unexpectedly well in the midterms, which means Biden is likely to run for reelection in 2024.

According to progressive political strategist Cooper Teboe, the results of the midterm elections silenced speculations of a progressive candidate running for the presidency in 2024. While a few people were likely to challenge Biden, now he will not face any intra-party resistance, Teboe added.

After the midterm elections, multiple progressive candidates started supporting Biden. For instance, progressive Senator Ed Markey noted every left-leaning individual should support Biden in his 2024 White House run since he managed to defeat Trump by seven million votes in 2020.

Similarly, radical left Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal asserted she would support Biden’s 2024 election, even after opposing him previously. Jayapal claimed Biden was not among her first two presidential choices, but she has now changed her mind.

In addition, progressive political strategist Jennifer Holdsworth stated Biden should run for reelection in 2024 to complete his social spending and climate agenda.

Isolated Progressive Groups Still Trying to Stop Biden

Multiple progressive groups also campaigned against Biden before the midterm elections. One such group, RootsAction, established that Biden is neither inspiring nor motivating, so he should not run for the White House in 2024.

Earlier this year, the progressive group announced it would run a six-figure campaign against Biden’s reelection right after the midterm elections.

Although RootsAction started digital ads to pressure Biden not to run in 2024, their campaign is hardly supported by any notable politician. RootsAction is associated with Senator Bernie Sanders, who has run for Democratic primaries multiple times in the past.

Meanwhile, John Paul, the spokesman of the progressive PAC, Sunrise Movement, noted Biden and other Democrats started embracing progressive policies ahead of the midterm elections.

This is the prominent reason for the reducing opposition within the far-left against the president. Paul also added that whether or not Biden runs in 2024, he has a responsibility to help young people by propagating progressive policies across the United States.

Far-left firebrand AOC was expected to be a likely competitor of Biden in the next presidential election. When asked about the possible presidential run earlier this year, AOC, who will turn 35 just before the 2024 presidential election, did not deny the possibility of running for the White House.
