According to sources who spoke with Fox News, troubled Republican Representative George Santos from New York will stand down from both of the committee assignments he was given.
Step Down or Removed?
Fox News made a recent report on confirmation from multiple sources within the Republican Party.
Per Fox, Santos said during a meeting of the Republican conference on Tuesday morning that he will remove himself from his current positions on the Small Business Committee and the Science Oversight Committee.
This development comes following the findings that Santos faked his employment and school history, amongst several other falsehoods.
In light of this, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, a Republican from California, was confronted with a number of issues regarding whether or not Santos would be authorized to sit on House committees.
McCarthy insisted that Santos, in his capacity as an elected member of the House of Representatives, be granted permission to serve on committees.
However, he also stated Santos would be expelled from Congress if it was determined by an inquiry conducted by the House Ethics Committee that he broke the law.
McCarthy stated to the press the previous week they would remove him from office if it were discovered during the ethics investigation that he broke legal precedent in any manner.

Issues From All Over
The controversy surrounding Santos began after it was discovered that he had lied about significant aspects of his background.
This is including his work and educational qualifications, connections to a purported Ponzi scheme, the passing of his mother, and even his Jewish heritage. This led to the eruption of fuss.
At the beginning of 2008, Brazilian prosecutors say that Santos, who was 19 years old at the time, used a looted checkbook and a fictitious name to execute fraudulent activity totaling over $700 at a garments store in the city of Niterói, which is situated outside of Rio de Janeiro.
After that, his mother went to the authorities and reported that Santos had stolen a check from a previous employer for whom she had worked.
He is also repeatedly accused of using a fictitious animal charity in 2016 to defraud a disabled veteran. According to the allegations, he solicited donations for the veteran’s dog’s cancer treatment, but kept the money himself. Santos refutes the allegations made against him.

There have been calls for Santos to step down by Republicans and Democrats in Congress, in addition to several Republicans in the state of New York.
Earlier this January, Santos stated he would step down from his position if the 142,000 people who voted for him begged him to do so.
