Many Americans are familiar with the talk show known as The View. On this show, the cohosts generally talk about trending topics impacting society, the United States, and the world at large.
Many of these topics can be controversial or divisive, especially depending on the tone that’s adopted at the time. Moreover, the cohosts of The View sometimes clash when it comes to differences of opinions or various interpretations of a given matter.
During one of the latest show episodes, the cohosts found themselves talking about former President Trump and the porn star Stormy Daniels that he’s alleged to have had an extramarital affair with.
It is during this time that cohost Whoopi Goldberg landed in hot water for using what many have deemed to be a slur, according to the New York Post.
What Exactly Happened?
Amid ongoing talks about Trump and Daniels, Goldberg declared her frustrations with folks who believe the former president was cheated in the 2020 election. However, the term Goldberg used for cheated was “g*pped,” a phrase widely regarding as a slur against Romani individuals.

In the aftermath of this, the cohost of The View put out a video statement, apologizing for what happened. Goldberg, in this message, acknowledged that she should have used different terminology and put more thought into what she was saying.
On social media, Americans who took issue with Goldberg’s word choice made their thoughts known as well. Critics pointed out the history behind this slur, in addition to sharing its negative impacts on the Romani people.
Part of a Pattern
Unfortunately, this latest incident is not an outlier for Goldberg. Last year, she landed in hot water after declaring the Holocaust was not about race. At the time, Goldberg stated the Holocaust was about white on white crime and man’s inhumanity to their fellow man.
This sentiment caused a lot of backlash, especially from the Jewish community, but also from others as well. This incident was so serious that Goldberg was actually given a two week hiatus from appearing on the show.

At this time, critics reminded Goldberg that during the Holocaust, Nazis very much deemed Jewish people to be a separate race and treated them accordingly. People also pointed out that Nazis’ hatred was not just reserved for Jewish folks.
It also extended to black individuals, the disabled, and others. Going forward, it remains to be seen if Goldberg makes additional comments that land her in this type of hot water.
