Judge HALTS Trump’s $300M White House Ballroom Construction

A federal judge delivered a major setback to President Trump’s controversial White House renovation plans, ordering construction to stop on his proposed $300 million ballroom until Congress provides explicit authorization. The decision marks a significant legal defeat for a project that has generated massive public opposition and constitutional concerns.

Court Rules President Is Steward, Not Owner

U.S. District Court Judge Richard Leon granted a preliminary injunction Tuesday after determining the National Trust for Historic Preservation will likely succeed in their lawsuit. Using multiple exclamation points in his written opinion, Leon emphasized a crucial distinction about presidential authority over the White House. The president serves as steward for future generations, not as the building’s owner, the judge declared. The ruling delays enforcement for 14 days to allow the administration time to appeal, while permitting security-related construction on the underground bunker to continue uninterrupted.

Project Faces Overwhelming Public Opposition

The ballroom project recently received approval from the Commission of Fine Arts, an architectural review panel now filled with Trump appointees. The commission voted for final approval despite never reviewing the completed design. Staff reported receiving more than 2,000 public comments opposing the project, with 99 percent expressing negative feedback. The proposed ballroom would accommodate 1,000 guests and required demolishing the White House East Wing. Trump has promoted the project as being under budget and ahead of schedule, comparing it favorably to his planned renovations of the Kennedy Center.

Constitutional Questions Over Presidential Authority

The lawsuit centers on whether Trump followed proper procedures when demolishing part of the White House and soliciting private donations for construction. Judge Leon previously declined to rule on the merits in February, but indicated he would expeditiously address the constitutional issues if the complaint was amended. The National Trust argued the president lacks authority to make such dramatic changes without congressional approval. The National Capital Planning Commission is scheduled to vote on the ballroom project Thursday. Trump responded on social media by attacking the preservation group, claiming they fail to appreciate his efforts at improving Washington buildings.

  1. That Judge is an anti American IDIOT. The project has been well underway for some time now. The expeditious thing is to finish it. It is not costing taxpayers anything. Nobody stopped democrat Presidents from making changes.

  2. Agreed…….another lib judge at work to make President Trump look bad and as stated before, no cost to the taxpayer.

  3. Nobody asked me what I thought. The fact that Trump is using the original historical architecture to improve functionality of the White House instead of building something ugly and inconsistent with the historical style, and doing it without taxpayer expense, is a win win to me. If there is an event scheduled for a large number of people, the ballroom could easily accommodate the crowd if the weather is inclement or security is a concern. What is the problem? Does he have to get Congressional approval to change a light bulb or fix a broken door knob too? I don’t remember Obama having to get Congressional approval for a basketball court that only he could use–and at taxpayer expense. I don’t remember being polled about that. How about Tyler’s large bath tub? Did he have Congressional approval for that? What if Congress had told him to go on a diet instead? I understand that the door knobs that Trump had installed that were based on the historical style of the White House in his first term, were given away as souvenirs by Biden and replaced with broken knobs. Did Biden get Congressional approval for that?

  4. Why now? Let’s finish the project. It would be more if an eyesore if left undone. What does thus judge think? Is this ruling making him look good? Of course not.

  6. Liberals hate conservatives and don’t want us to get any credit for improvements in America. These judges need to be ousted and let our president make America Greater more beautiful, more productive, safer & more Godly again. They’re not paying for it, so….
    back off.

  7. These judges have no right to stop the will of the people and override the President. The judge must be impeached for his crimes against the USA.
Get on with completing this amazing timeless structure . Be proud to be an American !

  8. Reminds me of the SS training facility at Berchtesgaden, Bavaria, Germany with a large meeting hall for addressing the cadre from a balcony, ready access to deep bunkers with food and power, and the room where “Mein Kampf” was written. Been there and saw those.

  9. Liberal idiots yet again using everything at their disposal to continue their 3rd grader school sand lot play-ground. Bickering and running to the teacher with every little tid-bit of information to smear the legacy of what Trump is trying to do for the American People. All true patriots instinctly know already that….”leaders do not stop to ask permission….They just do and lead.” Its the hangers on that have nothing of any real contribution to the nation that want to throw wrenches into the cogs of the Trump machine. I have such disdain for those type of party people.

  10. I am sick of marxist leaning judges that need to fulfill their oath to uphold the laws of our country by removing criminals that should have never been in America instead they are going against the SCOTUS ruling that they, the wayward judges stop harrassing our president. And why has not our congress started impeachment of these wayward judges? they have the support of the SCOTUS?
