Mexican Senator ARRESTED—Cartel Bribes EXPOSED…

A high-ranking Mexican politician turned himself in to federal authorities in San Diego after prosecutors accused him of taking bribes from one of the most dangerous drug cartels operating along America’s southern border. The arrest exposes a network of corruption that allegedly helped flood U.S. communities with deadly fentanyl.

Senator Faces Federal Drug Trafficking Charges

Enrique Inzunza Cazarez, a 53-year-old senator from Sinaloa state and member of Mexico’s ruling Morena party, surrendered to Drug Enforcement Administration agents in San Diego. Federal prosecutors charged him with narcotics importation conspiracy and weapons violations involving machine guns and destructive devices. The April 29 indictment named ten current and former Sinaloa officials who allegedly worked with the notorious Sinaloa Cartel.

Protecting Los Chapitos Operation

Court documents reveal Inzunza Cazarez met directly with leaders of Los Chapitos, the cartel faction controlled by the sons of imprisoned drug lord Joaquin Guzman, known as El Chapo. Prosecutors allege the senator agreed to specific plans for state government officials to support and protect cartel operations in exchange for political favors. U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton stated the Sinaloa Cartel could not operate as freely without corrupt politicians on their payroll.

Installing Corrupt Officials

The indictment accuses Inzunza Cazarez and businessman Enrique Diaz Vega of acting as middlemen between cartel leadership and Sinaloa Governor Rocha Moya. The pair allegedly helped install dishonest officials to protect drug trafficking operations. Diaz Vega, who served as the state’s Secretary of Administration and Finance until September 2024, turned himself in to authorities in Arizona on Friday.

Breaking The Cartel-Government Alliance

The arrests represent a significant effort to dismantle the corrupt relationship between Mexican officials and drug trafficking organizations. Federal prosecutors emphasized that these charges send a clear message to foreign officials worldwide who enable narco-traffickers. The case highlights how political corruption at the highest levels has contributed to the fentanyl crisis devastating American communities. With the senator now in custody, investigators continue examining the full scope of cartel influence within Mexican state government.
